Root Canals

At Cedar Dental Centre, our Kamloops dentists may perform root canal therapy when the inner nerve of a tooth is affected by decay or infection.

What is a root canal?

During a root canal procedure, the nerves, bacteria, and decay are removed from the tooth, and the resulting space is filled with special medicated dental materials to restore the tooth to its full function.

The Importance of Preserving Natural Teeth

Having a root canal done can save a tooth that otherwise would die and have to be removed.

Simply removing the problem tooth is not a good solution because it will ultimately be more costly to replace, and can cause significant problems for adjacent teeth.

Signs & Symptoms

If you experience any of the following issues, you may need a root canal:

  • An abscess (or pimple) on the gums
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Severe toothache pain
  • Swelling and/or tenderness

To find out if you need a root canal, visit your dentist. Your dentist will be able to identify the problem, and will recommend the appropriate treatment for it.
